We all have goals, there’s no questioning that, but some of us don’t realize the importance of actually putting them on paper, and referring back to them regularly.
Most of the time when we set a goal for ourselves, we always think of the finish line, the end result, the big picture. And yes it it completely possible to get to the big picture without having a step by step course of action to get there, but it’s not very efficient doing it that way.
And that is why it important for us to set small attainable goals that will lead up to that point;
Here are 6 reasons why:
1. It Gives You A Focus
Let’s be honest here, we often tell ourselves where we want to be in five years, but the majority of us don’t take the the time to actually sit down and figure out how the hell we are going to get there. But, if we take one hour out of our month to write down exactly what we need to do to get there, we can spend the rest of our time focusing on doing those exact steps!
We won’t be wasting time trying to figure out where start, it allows us to be able to breathe and not feel as if we have to rush to get to the finish line because we let four years go by and have made no progress due to us not having a plan.
When you have a plan you have a focus!
2. It Allows You To Track Your Progress
Regular goal setting a great way to keep track of how productive you have been in trying to reach the end goal. If you make it a habit to refer back to your goal plan monthly, quarterly, of even semi-monthly it will always keep you on track as to what you need to do next. And if we can do it more
often than that’s even better, we will have a better understanding of where we are and the progress that we are making at all times.
Keep ourselves up to date on what we have gotten done, and if we see that we aren’t making the progress that we should be, it will help snap us back into reality and regain focus to get back to work.
3. It Gives You Motivation
There is just something about being able to cross off the little things on our plan that we have accomplished that motivates us to keep going and doing the best we can to be successful in our mission to get where we want to be in life. It also encourages us to work harder, and makes us proud that we are able to stay focused on our mission to success. And before we know it, all of our dreams will come true.
4. It Helps Avoid Procrastination
When we are aware of the fact that we have limited time to get to the big picture, we are more likely to avoid making the mistake of procrastinating. We avoid distractions at all cost because it will be a huge disappointment if we don’t accomplish our goals in the time that we have given ourselves. That’s the last thing that we want. And honestly when we have it all mapped out in front of us, there is no excuse as to why we wouldn’t make progress.
5. The Plan Can Always Be Tweaked
Clearly things don’t always go as planned, but that is okay! No matter what obstacles may come about in our lives, our plans are completely customizable and we’ll be able to tweak it to our liking.
Plus if we find that something just hasn’t been working for us or we just can’t seem reach that one goal, change it! We’re not going to let it keep us from progressing, there is always a way to work through things.
6. It Becomes A Lifelong Habit
Once we reach that first big picture using regular goal setting, and we look back and see how much of a difference it makes in reaching our goals, we’ll never want to stop.
Finally accomplishing our long-term goals is an amazing feeling, one that we will want to experience over and over again. So do whatever it takes to keep that feeling going.
While it is important to have goals in general, it is even more important to have a plan on how to achieve them. It doesn’t have to be written on paper, especially with the technology that we have today, but as long as it’s in a place where we can keep coming back to it and are able to keep it updated, go for it!
I hope these reasons were good enough for you to see how important it is to get started with regular goal setting, and that you start your journey today!
