For years I have always heard of the law of attraction, but I never understood what it really meant.
What I did understand was that it usually required a lot of positive thinking, but that was really it.
In the last three months or so, things in my life had taken a really bad turn. I was depressed, riddled with anxiety, and was far from happy.
And it wasn’t until November 21st that I was in a car accident and later that day I realized that I brought the accident upon myself.
Let me elaborate.
For anyone who truly knows me, they would all know that I have terrible car anxiety. I hate driving. I hate driving with other people and I will literally burst into tears when going around tight turns.
Car rides are just not fun to me.
Anyway, so with that being said, I really hate driving in the rain. And it just so happen to be that on that day, it was our first rain here in our city (I live in Northern California, we needed the rain with all the fires going on and all).
I had just gotten off of work and the moment that I saw it was raining, the little voice in my head kicked in.
“Oh my God, I don’t wanna deal with this. It’s going to be a bitch trying to get home.” Negative thoughts started pouring in.
The car that I drive is my fiance’s car and I have been driving it since I had to get rid of my Jetta a year ago. It is a Crown Victoria that used to be a police car.
So needless to say, the car is more powerful than I would prefer, but I just have to deal with it. I kept thinking about what would happen if I got into an accident. “Please don’t let me crash.” I kept thinking to myself.
To make a long story short, I went to Walmart (which was a few blocks from my workplace), bought my girls some Thanksgiving outfits, and left.
On my way out parking lot, I was making a left turn onto the main road and hit an oil patch, spun out, hit a divider.
I was super shaken up and devastated I won’t lie. I wasn’t even going 10 miles an hour when I was making the turn and it was just a complete inconvenience.
But thankfully, no one else was involved, and the only damage was that the bumper came off. Thank God for that!
Regardless of what happened, I still enjoyed my Thanksgiving and was grateful because things could have been so much worse! I was safe, the car was still functioning, and no one else was hurt at the end of the day and that was all that mattered.
What does that have to do with the law of attraction?
Well, a few days after the accident, my fiance was outside doing some work on the car with his dad and I was doing some cooking for the kids while listening to Youtube videos.
At some point I went to change videos, and I came across a suggested video with a title that said something like, “How You Are Attracting Negativity Into Your Life.” It caught my attention and watched it.
It was from there that I was introduced to the power of the law of attraction.
I had always assumed that it only worked for positive things, but boy was I wrong! Just as easily as we can attract positive things in our life, we can attract negative things, and for me the car accident solidified that revelation for me!
I kept watching different videos about the subject, watched The Secret and I immediately became infatuated with it and I believe in it whole heatedly.
Reflecting on the events that have been happening in my life the last few months, have made me come to the conclusion that my constant negative thoughts, feelings and actions are causing a constant cycle of bad things to manifest into my life.
What I was putting out into the world was what I was getting back.
So what did I do to change this?
There are many words and things that we say that contribute to the attraction of negativity. For example, I would always say, “I can never get break.” Of course when I say this the universe is tuning in to my vibration and energy, and has decided not to give me a break.
I also have a habit of using the the words, “I wish.” “I hope.” and “I need.” When we use these words we put a focus on what we don’t have, when we need to be showing that we are grateful for what we do have.
Since learning this I have been reprogramming myself to start using more positive words that are going to attract great things into my life. And the way I have been doing that is by using words like “I am.” “I have.” and “I will.”
Since then, every morning when I wake up I start by saying things that I am grateful for, saying positive affirmations, and some journal writing.
These things have been putting me in a much more positive mood. I am also slowly starting to notice that when something I didn’t particularly like happens, instead of my first initial thoughts being something negative, I am starting to focus on something positive about the situation.
This is what I’ve learned.
We as people have a great amount of control over our lives.
With positive thinking, gratitude, good energy, and good deeds we can get anything that we want in life.
The first steps are believing, and changing your mindset.
Since I have started to believe in the law of attraction things have started to click for me. It feels right, and I know that from here on out everything I want in life will come to me in perfect timing with faith, God and hard work.
